EngineerTelegraph Mastering is owned and operated by engineer
Adam Gonsalves.
ApproachThe most important aspect of mastering is communication. Optimal results come from clear expectations from the client and open communication on the process from the engineer. This is a crucial first, middle, and last step.
Mastering is about quality control, assuring translation, and applying corrections or treatments after careful, focused listening. To make my client's music sound it's absolute best I rely on patience, an ear for detail, and the ability to juggle the micro and the macro simultaneously. The right approach to tackling a problem is every bit as important as the
tools you use to solve it.
Listen attentively, bring out the best, and do no harm are my guiding principles as an engineer.
ExperienceI’ve been a musician for over 14 years, playing drums, guitar, bass, & synthesizers. I worked for 7 years as a tracking and mixing engineer at Anchorhold Recording, have taught audio engineering at
The College Preparatory School as well as basic electronics at
The Crucible , and was a panelist at the 2009
Expo ’74 in San Francisco. I also produce the
Square Cad Mastering Podcast.
EducationThere is no substitute for hands-on experience but education is an important supplement to practical knowledge. I hold a master’s degree in Music Technology from New York University, and am an Apple Certified Logic Studio Master.
PersonalI was raised on the east coast, lived for several years in Oakland, and moved to Portland in 2010 to pursue mastering as a full time profession. In my spare time I enjoy travel, biking, and making music of my own.
